Peace Pole at Garden of Hope For Breast Cancer Patients Flourishes At Southampton Hospital – New York – USA
October-2014
A Peace Pole stands in the eastern corner of the garden. Each volunteer wrote a message and put it in the Peace Pole before it was inserted into the ground, in keeping with the Peace Pole Project of The World Peace Prayer Society. The idea is to spread peace throughout the world, in many different languages.
As patient navigator at the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center and president of the Coalition for Women’s Cancers, Ms. Susie Roden says her job is basically taking the journey from start to finish with breast cancer patients. The local organizations host a series of events throughout the year, especially during October—which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—to raise money for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the garden provides a place of tranquility and peace for breast cancer and other patients as well as visitors to the hospital.
It’s evident that Ms. Roden has made good on her promise not to allow others to face breast cancer alone.
“When I say my prayers at night, I say, ‘Don’t let my cancer return—I have too much work to do,’” Ms. Roden says.
