Girl Scout Gold Award Peace Pole Project-Walton, New York-USA
June 6th, 2012
Since November of 2011, Jim Dugan and High School Junior and Girl Scout Mikaelan Stuligross had been planning a World Peace Flag Ceremony that occurred on June 6th of 2012. Mikaelan had been working on her Girl Scout Gold Award Project and meeting with elementary school students in Walton, New York once each month and giving a presentation on one Country from each Continent on the planet. Her main goal was to teach the younger students about tolerance through diversity and how we really do have so much in common, after all. Jim Dugan and Ann Marie Robustelli went to the Townsend Elementary School in Walton where Jim led the World Peace Flag Ceremony with the entire 3rd grade as flag bearers and the 2nd through 5th grades in attendance. The Ceremony was covered on the local television and radio stations and was attended by the Mayor and many local dignitaries. There is now a Peace Pole on the Townsend Elementary School stage in perpetuity that was also dedicated on that day.
