Flint Public Library plants Peace Pole in observance of the International Day of Peace-Middleton, Massachusetts-USA

The Middleton community celebrated the International Day of Peace by dedicating a peaceful reading space outside the library on Tues. Sept 23. A short ceremony was held in the Reading Garden amid a profusion of fall flowers. The garden was sponsored by the Friends of the Flint Public Library. The focal point of the garden was a peace pole with the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages. The assistant town manager said a few introductory words about peace poles around the world, and the role of public libraries to promote peace in the world through education and knowledge.

The ceremony included short statements from a local girl scout troop and the library trustees. Two teens from the local High School’s Model UN group led the others in sending out peace to all the regions of the world with the refrain: May Peace Prevail on Earth. Then to symbolize one message, many languages members of the community said “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in their native language which included Arabic, Chinese, Danish, English, French, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Navajo, Polish, Spanish and Swedish. The concluding statements were shared by a local minister and rabbi. Fifty two people of all ages attended the dedication ceremony.
