Peace Pole designed to reflect the earliest citizens of the Ozark Mountains and Stone County, Arkansas-USA

On Sept. 21st, 2015, nearly 50 citizens of Stone County, Arkansas met to dedicate the new Peace Pole, designed to reflect the earliest citizens of the Ozark Mountains and Stone County.

The Ceremony opened with a song led by local music teacher Terina Mitchell and students from her class. They sang ” Walk the World” and it can be viewed here:

A brief history of the International Day of Peace and the Peace Pole Project was followed by teachings on the history of the Stone County Peace Pole as well as the many layers of symbolism built into it and why the particular languages were chosen.

Charlie Mink gave a brief talk of the Irish-Gaelic roots of traditional folk music and played ” Scarborough Fair” as an example.

Gatherers were encouraged to see the Peace Pole as something that they can add to in the years to come, to beautify and perhaps create a pocket park around.

There was then a Sharing Circle around the Peace Pole where each participant had a chance to share their feelings about the Peace Pole, and the goal of Peace in general. We then had a closing song, entitled,  ” Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream” led by Kathy Jenson.

The phrase ” May Peace Prevail On Earth” was offered up by participants and the Peace Pole Dedication was complete.
