Peace Pole unveiled at Oswego Pioneer Cemetery
Members of the Oswego Pioneer Cemetery board and the Lake Oswego Rotary Club held an unveiling ceremony last week for a new Peace Pole that was recently installed in the cemetery’s patio area.
“This is a memorial to the people who gave their lives,” said Rotary member Linda Brown at the ceremony. “And what they were giving their lives for is a better world.”
The Peace Pole, with the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” inscribed in eight languages, was sponsored by the Rotary Club and stands next to the Veterans Honor Board. It is the latest in a series that have been installed in Lake Oswego in recent years as part of the international Peace Pole Project.
Peace Poles at the Lake Oswego Public Library, City Hall, Marylhurst University and several local schools join more than 200,000 now in place around the world.
