First International Peace Pole in western India in Pichola lakeside in Udaipur, Rajasthan-INDIA
On January 14, 2017 (aka Makar Sankranti, the Hindu solstice) the first International Peace Pole in western India was dedicated by a vivid varied multi-generational crowd in the new eco-artistic sanctuary of Shaktipur on the Pichola lakeside in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Co-organized by New York’s Vanaver Caravan (VC) and Udaipur’s Big Medicine Charitable Trust (BMCT), the event engaged foreign well-wishers from several continents as well as local Indians of all castes and creeds.
The dance & song-filled ceremony was led by VC co-founders Livia and Bill Vanaver and the Peace Pole was formally unveiled by BMCT co-founder Premilla Dixit Nag and BMCT trustee & renowned Buddhist/Dalit leader Dr. Kusum Meghwal. Local bard Ashok Jain Manthan facilitated Hindi/English translation and contributed lovely original poetry.
The Peace Pole is protectively located on Shaktipur’s beautiful but geomantically vulnerable northeast corner at the foot of a sacrad kadam tree; and its inspirational inscription is rendered in Mewari, Urdu, English and Japanese.

The pole is also auspiciously positioned at the heart of the erstwhile princely state of Mewar famed for centuries of internal peace and fraternal tolerance among its many diverse religious and tribal communities.
