San Jose City College's annual Peace Pole Planting for International Day of Peace, San Jose, CA, USA

San Jose City College has an annual fall semester tradition of Celebrating the International Day of Peace. They do so by planting a Peace Pole coupled with an exuberant celebration filled with dancing and singing in honor of the Day. This Year will mark the 7th Peace Pole planted along the Arch Walk on campus.

Through San Jose City College a Path of Peace Poles lines the “Arch Walk”.

Behind this wonderful tradition of kindness and acceptance is Jason Adkins. He has been organizing this event for the College and shows his commitment to equality and Peace through his enthusiasm and dedication for the cause. This year with all that occurred with immigrant refugee families, met by laws that separated and left many without the hope of a new life they were desperately seeking. Jason decided he would dedicate this year’s Peace Pole to these Families. An extremely significant gesture in a time when tolerance and acceptance is more important than ever.

Though teaching tolerance and equality has been a long standing tradition on San Jose’s City Campus, this article from February 2017.

“New Data Shows the Positive Economic Impact of Immigrant Population in Silicon Valley

SAN JOSE, CA — New research on the contributions of immigrants in Silicon Valley highlights both their importance to local economies and the critical need for effective immigration reform.

Spearheaded by New American Economy (NAE) and City of San José, Map the Impact is a campaign to highlight the power of immigrants in communities across the country.  With 51 events in 37 states, this effort arms business, civic, and cultural leaders with new data on immigrant populations in all 435 congressional districts and 50 metro areas.”- www.sjcc.edu
