First United Methodist Church of Orlando, Fla., dedicated a Peace Pole on its campus on June 12, 2017, as part of its observance of the first anniversary of the Pulse tragedy.

Rev. Tom McCloskey, church members, community leaders and first responders gathered to remember those lost on June 12, 2016. The Peace Pole has the peace prayer, May Peace Prevail On Earth, in seven different languages, representing the diversity of the local community.
Members of the Women’s Bible Study group at First United Methodist Church of Orlando are shown with Landscape Architect Harlan Hansen and Pastor Tom McCloskey following the dedication of the Peace Pole on their church campus. The women raised money for the Peace Pole and “planted” it during services commemorating the first anniversary of the Pulse tragedy.
As part of the landscaping, the church created a “Pathway to Peace,” with stepping stones engraved with the names of famous peacemakers. The Orlando Peace Pole was sculpted by artist Joel Selmeier of Cincinnati.
