Monroeville Rotary, Gateway Interact Club sponsors Peace Walk and Rally for Ukraine
May 2, 2021
The Monroeville Peace Pole was installed in 2021 and includes the universal peace message “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in 37 languages, representing the multicultural diversity of Monroeville and neighboring communities. It provides a gathering place for members of the community to reflect, refresh and find peace.
The Rotary Club of Monroeville and Gateway High School Interact Club are jointly sponsoring a Peace Walk and Rally for Ukraine from noon to 1:30 p.m. May 7 at Monroeville Community Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road.
All are encouraged to come and join the approximately one-mile walk through the park, which will lead to a gathering point at the park’s Peace Pole, where a Rally for Peace will take place.
Cash donations and clothing donations will be accepted, and they will be provided to humanitarian organizations that are providing relief and support to Ukrainian refugees.
The Peace Walk and Rally for Ukraine is a way for the community to come together and demonstrate the commitment to peace in our world, as well as raise money that can go toward relieving the suffering of Ukrainians who have been impacted by the current conflict in their homeland.
Rotary International, a community service organization with more than 1.2 million members worldwide, has been dedicated to peace and conflict resolution since its founding in 1905. Interact is the student extension of Rotary, and brings young people ages 12 to 18 together to develop leadership skills through projects that help their schools and communities as well as promote international understanding.
