St. Charles Borromeo Church Peace Pole-April 22, 2008
On April 22, 2008, our parish installed and dedicated a Peace Pole at the entrance to our Catholic church in Kettering, Ohio. It has been made by a student as a requirement for his Eagle Scout Award. Our parish Social Justice Commission was instrumental in finalizing the project. The entire St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School student body of 400 children was in attendance after the morning mass led by their Principal, Mrs. Fran Moore.
The four languages on the sides of the Peace Pole are English, Spanish, Hebrew and Swahili. The Peace Pole will be rotated to a different language each month by a St. Charles student.
Mr. Tony Klepacz, a Kettering Councilman and parish member, read a special proclamation from the city. The Peace Pole was blessed and dedicated by Father Ron Haft, Associate Pastor. Alongside, on a separate shaft, stands a prayer for peace. It is placed in a special area, which will be known as our Peace Garden.
