WPPS Peace Representative News: Penny Joy Snider-Light
January-2009
In honor of the Interfaith Service for First Night Boston, 2008-2009, and the UN International Year of Reconciliation, 2009, it was my infinite blessing to dedicate a World Peace Pole at the New Year’s Eve Interfaith Service for First Night Boston, 2008-2009.
This was the first Peace Pole that I have dedicated and I did so in collaboration with others on the Leadership Committee of the Interfaith Service for First Night Boston.
Held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, downtown Boston, our theme for our annual Interfaith Service this year was RECONCILIATION, in honor of the UN International Year of Reconciliation, 2009.
The languages we chose for our four sided Peace Pole included: English, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Sanskrit, Latin, Chinese, and Japanese.
As we transitioned into 2009, I made remarks about the World Peace Pole Project, and then offered a prayer for World Peace which included a blessing for the UN International Year of Reconciliation, 2009, and our World Peace Pole. Then, our Buddhist representative offered a sacred blessing for the Peace Pole. We then processed through the congregation with our World Peace Pole, and people wanted to touch it. I cannot adequately express how moving the ceremony was; moved to tears.
May Peace Prevail on Earth!
