Rotary Club designates two Peace Schools, Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada

Two Catholic elementary schools have been designated Peace Schools by the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland for 2010. St. Jules and St. Pius X won the honour Monday for fostering an educational environment that is “safe, caring and welcoming” and demonstrating a commitment to the process of peace, said Jill Braido, communications director for the Catholic school board. Each school will receive a Peace Pole from the Rotary Club with the inscription “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Students at the schools will receive bracelets with the same inscription.
Co-Chair Anna Jurak is the facilitator of the Rotary Peace Schools project within her community.
Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada-established as a Rotary Peace City since 2001. The Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland has hosted a “Peace School” designation program in partnership with local school boards in their county.
The Program is designed to designate schools annually as Peace Schools. Schools that achieve an 80% designation on the self-assessment questionnaire are designated as Peace Schools. The questionnaire was developed in consultation with the local school boards and has 6 main reasons of assessment: Communication, Extra Curricular Activities, School Culture, School Programs, School Pride and Rotary Principles.
The top 4 schools in the area receive a “Peace Pole” to erect in their school yard at a ceremony to celebrate their achievement.
