Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony

A Peace Pole dedication ceremony is an exciting event, whether it is planned for a public place where hundreds of people will attend or a private backyard. Every dedication ceremony is a unique outcome of the shared experience of those who plan the program, as well as those who attend.

Some Peace Poles are already placed in the ground prior to the ceremony and unveiled during the dedication. Or you may choose to have a group planting, where everyone gets to heave a shovel full of dirt.

Various items may be planted along with your Peace Pole.   Plan a re-dedication ceremony for the following year.

Remember that your Peace Pole dedication or re-dedication can include any elements you bring to it. Whatever you do, the important part is to hold your intentions for world peace in your heart and send it around the world. You will make it special, you will be a bringer of peace. You cannot go wrong if you plan your Peace Pole dedication with lots of love!

Videos are a great way to visualize the various ways you can dedicate your Peace Pole.  Go  to www.youtube.com and search for "PeacePoleDedicationCeremonies" to find ideas that you might consider in planning your own ceremony.  These short videos are very inspiring.  You too could make a video for YouTube or FaceBook use.  Your project could be seen all over the world, for years to come!

Dedication ceremonies are unique events that offer an opportunity for the community to come together and express their thoughts on peace and non-violence.  The words spoken should be from the heart and may be given by the youths working on the project, local or other officials, teachers, parents, or whoever is interested in participating.  Here are a couple of examples of thoughts expressed at other ceremonies.  Make yours an event that you feel comfortable with.  Peace.

Compose a Peace Poem to be read at a Dedication Ceremony.  Send it to PaxChristi18@gmail.com.  If appropriate, we

will post it here and/or on our FaceBook Page (Long Island Peace Pole Project) for others to consider.  And thanks!

Examples:

Thoughts of a Peace Pole

There I stood, tall and straight

With a message I thought was great

"May Peace Prevail on Earth"

But will my message of peace and non-violence

Ring a bell or lead to silence?

Will the message be heard by voice

But then be forgotten by choice?

Will this generation or the next to come

Have the wisdom to make a difference?

Will I help to make the world a better place,

For every person and race?

Will you work to spend more on education, food, water and health?

Or continue to waste more on weapons of destruction?

I hope in time it will be found

That my message of Peace is sound.

And that all will find that time and energy are always worth

Seeking peace on earth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Peace Prayer

  •

    • May the earth have but one side and all feet stand upon

    •

    • May a wave ripple through space creating a wave in return

    •

    • May a song travel to even the most hidden heart

    •

    • May seeing eye to eye begin with direct line of sight

    •

    • May the twinkle of an eye light a night’s sky

    •

    • May a smile lift heavy weight and reveal happiness beneath

    •

    • May pealing back layers of happiness uncover a core of peace

    •

    • May a trace from end to start and shore to shore find peace prevailing in every heart

May happiness lead to the growth of spirit

May this spirit lead to making a difference

May this difference lead to making a better world

May this better world benefit all plants, animals, life and humans

PEACE POLE DEDICATION SCRIPT on September 13 in Hiddenbrook

WELCOME SPEECH: UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL-- BASED ON THE NATURE OF THE EVENT.

MISSION OF WPPS AND PEACE POLE PROJECT:

THE MISSION OF THE WORLD PEACE PRAYER SOCIETY IS TO TEACH THE MESSAGE OF PEACE. THE SOCIETY WAS FOUNDED BY JAPANESE TEACHER, POET AND PHILOSOPHER MASAHISA GOI (1916 –1980). FOLLOWING THE DEVASTATION OF WORLD WAR II, MR. GOI CRIED OUT FOR A WAY TO BRING PEACE TO ALL PEOPLE, AND THE WORDS MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH CAME TO HIM IN A MOMENT OF GREAT INSPIRATION.

MR. GOI EXPLAINED THAT WORDS AND THOUGHTS ARE ALIVE WITH ENERGY!! THEREFORE THEY HAVE THE POWER TO SHAPE OUR WORLD, BRINGING PEACE AND HARMONY TO OUR PERSONAL LIVES AND TO OUR BEAUTIFUL PLANET. HE BELIEVED THAT WAR BEGINS WITH THOUGHTS OF WAR….PEACE BEGINS WITH THOUGHTS OF PEACE. AND IT IS FROM THIS CONCEPT THAT THE PEACE POLE PROJECT WAS IMPLEMENTED WITH THE INTENTION TO UPLIFT PEOPLE TOWARDS HARMONY RATHER THAN CONFLICT. THE PEACE POLE REMINDS US TO KEEP PEACE EVER-PRESENT IN OUR THOUGHTS. TO DATE, THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PEACE POLES PLANTED IN EVERY COUNTRY, THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

PEACE POLE DEDICATION: THE PEACE POLE COULD BE COVERED THEN UNVEILED….

AND WE ARE PART OF OUR FAMILY, OUR COMMUNITY, OUR COUNTRY AND THE WORLD. MAY PEACE BE EVER PRESENT IN OUR WORDS, THOUGHTS AND ACTIONS. (ATTENDEES CAN BE ASKED TO SAY A FEW WORDS)

SPEAKER

LET’S US INAUGURATE THIS PEACE POLE AND COMMORATE THIS DAY, BY SAYING

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

September 21st is United Nation's International Day of Peace. This is a day where individuals, groups and nations come together for prayer-- to activate tens of thousands of Peace Poles around the world!
